Hello! I am going to cry because I have just gotten done with the whole entire Divergent series by one of my favorite authors in the history of the entire universe, Veronica Roth. Well, I am not going to cry. I am just really sad, yet happy because the series is complete. BUT I WANT MORE!
If you haven’t read Four, then you are in luck! I am going to tell you all about it and about all of the stories without any of the spoilers. Here is my review of Veronica Roth’s Four.
Author: Veronica Roth
Publisher / Publishing Date: July 8th, 2014 by HarperCollins
About: Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation’s faction leader did the same. Tobias’s transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.
Newly christened “Four,” he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.
Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth comes a companion volume to the worldwide bestselling DIVERGENT series, told from the perspective of the immensely popular character Tobias. The four pieces included here—THE TRANSFER, THE INITIATE, THE SON, and THE TRAITOR—plus three additional exclusive scenes, give readers an electrifying glimpse into the history and heart of Tobias, and set the stage for the epic saga of the DIVERGENT trilogy.
Based on the synopsis above, Four is a collection of snippets telling the story of Divergent in Four’s point of view. He tells what it is like to go to a different faction, escape from his father, learn new secrets and try to be the best Dauntless member that there has ever been before.
The first story in Four is called “The Transfer.” “The Transfer” is about Tobias and he really wants to get away from Marcus, his mean father that happens to be one of the leaders of Abnegation. He wants to have a brand new life away from his father, so the rest of his life will not be horrible.
When the Choosing Ceremony comes around and Tobias is really confused about where to go. Finally, he knows where to go where Marcus will not bother his anymore. He decides to go to Dauntless, the most toughest faction of them all. In Dauntless, he can be free and away from his father, but his father is not happy with his choice. Also, Tobias will have to make a new identity for himself, so no one will know his old past anymore.
The second story in Four is called “The Initiate.” In “The Initiate,” Tobias is now in Dauntless, but he has to prove to everybody that he is not a “Stiff” and he has to prove that he is not another transfer from Abnegation, he has to show everybody that he is a true Dauntless member.
Just like Tris at her initiation, Tobias has to fight his way to become a Dauntless member. He has to give up his past and jump right into his new life.
Tobias is a true Dauntless now and he knows that nothing can stop him now, only his fears. Tobias has reconnected with Evelyn, his mother who faked her death and his father lied to him about it by saying that she died in labor of another child. SHE DIDN’T AND TOBIAS KNEW THAT BECAUSE HE IS REALLY SMART! He reunites with his mother and she tells Tobias about something that may happen to all of the factionless that will change everything.
The last story in Four is called “The Traitor.” Time has went forward two years later when Tobias finally meets Beatrice Prior, the not so tough Abnegation girl. Tobias get to teach the new initiate all about Dauntless life, but what if he falls in love with the girl who went first?
Okay, so my copy of Four has three bonus stories and I am not sure if every copy does, but I am 99% positive that they do. The bonus stories are little scenes of the first book that are three to four pages long. They are super fun and super short to read and it is a great way to end the Divergent series.
I would have to say that Veronica Roth’s Four is a four star book. It was very good and I loved getting to see everything in Tobia’s point of view and I loved getting a glimpse into his old life and his new life.
